ABC To Air Two Episodes of Hulu Originals Docu-Series ‘The 1619 Project’ on Wednesday, May 31, at 8 P.M. EDT/PDT on ABC

Today, ABC and Onyx Collective announced that the critically acclaimed docu-series “The 1619 Project,” an expansion of The 1619 Project initiative, created by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and The New York Times Magazine, will make its broadcast debut WEDNESDAY, MAY 31 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. The one-night-only event will feature special airings of both the premiere episode, “Democracy,” and finale episode, “Justice.” All episodes are now streaming on Hulu. Episode 101 – “Democracy” Told through Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nikole Hannah-Jones’ personal story, historical events and the modern fights for voting rights, “Democracy” explores Black America’s centuries-long fight to democratize America and hold it to its founding ideals. Disney’s Onyx Collective Presents Hulu Original ‘The 1619 Project’ and Original Dramedy ‘Unprisoned’ at the Television Critics Association Winter 2023 Press Tour, With Additional Premiere Date Announcements and New Pickups of Docu-Series ’Black Twitter’ (Working Title) and Scripted Comedy Pilot ‘1266’ (Working Title)

Onyx Collective continues to expand its slate of premium programming by creators of color and underrepresented voices. Below are the panels and announcements from the Television Critics Association Winter 2023 Press Tour sessions today: Original dramedy “UnPrisoned,” executive produced and starring Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo, is set to premiere March 10 on Hulu, with all episodes streaming at once. From creator Tracy McMillan, the eight-episode series is produced by ABC Signature and will stream exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories. Inspired by McMillan’s life, “UnPrisoned” is a half-hour dramedy about a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist and single mom whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son. Hulu Original Docuseries ‘The 1619 Project’ From Lionsgate and Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones to Premiere Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023

Today, Disney’s Onyx Collective announced a Jan. 26 premiere date for Hulu’s upcoming six-part limited docu-series “The 1619 Project,” an expansion of “The 1619 Project” created by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and The New York Times Magazine. The limited series will debut with the first two episodes streaming exclusively on Hulu, with two additional episodes released every Thursday. In keeping with the original project, the series seeks to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. The episodes — “Democracy,” “Race,” “Music,” “Capitalism,” “Fear” and “Justice” — are adapted from essays from The New York Times No. 1 bestselling “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” and examine how the legacy of slavery shapes different aspects of contemporary American life.
