Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin are an Academy Award®- and Emmy® Award-winning directing partnership. “Undefeated,” their debut feature-length film about a struggling football program in North Memphis, Tennessee, debuted at the 2011 SXSW film festival and went on to win the Oscar® for Best Documentary Feature at the 2012 Academy Awards. Lindsay and Martin also served as the film’s editors and cinematographers.

They are executive producers on the upcoming National Geographic limited series 9/11: ONE DAY IN AMERICA, which recounts the events of Sept. 11 from the point of view of the survivors.

Their subsequent film, LA92, revisited the 1992 civil unrest that erupted in Los Angeles following the not guilty verdicts of the four police officers charged with beating Rodney King. The film, created using only existing archival sources, premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win the 2017 Primetime Emmy for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, as well as being short-listed for Best Documentary Feature at the 2018 Academy Awards. The film was awarded the ABC Video News Source Award for exceptional use of archival materials at the 2017 IDA Awards. It was also nominated for Best Editing by the Cinema Eye Honors and the American Cinema Editors, with Martin as the lead editor.

Their most recent film, “Tina,” which explores the life and career of Tina Turner, premiered at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival ahead of its North American release on HBO. The film has been celebrated by critics and audiences worldwide and set a viewership record for HBO and HBO Max. The film will continue to be released in theaters internationally throughout 2021.
Other projects include directing an episode of the acclaimed Netflix series “Dogs” and a 2014 special for Nat Geo entitled I AM DYING, which followed a young woman in her final months of life. The special was executive produced by Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix and used as a training tool for many in the palliative care community. Their short documentary “My Favorite Picture Of You” premiered at the 2013 True/False Film Festival and was nominated for a Webby. In 2020, they served as executive producers on the HBO documentary “Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn.”

They have directed several award-winning commercial campaigns for brands like Facebook, Prudential, Comcast, Toyota and Google. In 2019, they directed “The Truth Is Worth It” campaign for the New York Times. The spots went on to be awarded nearly every honor in commercial advertising and became the first commercial in history to win both the Film Grand Prix and Film Craft Grand Prix at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

Martin is originally from Seattle, Washington, and Lindsay originates from Rockford, Illinois. They both currently reside in Los Angeles, California.
