Alastair Fothergill

Alastair Fothergill is a highly acclaimed producer of nature documentaries for television and cinema, having been at the forefront of the industry for over three decades. In 2012, he left the BBC to establish Silverback Films, now one of the world’s leading natural history production companies, and is also currently a director of Studio Silverback. Most recently, Alastair was an executive producer on the 2023 Netflix shows “Life on Our Planet” and “Our Planet II,” a series producer of the 2023 landmark BBC series “Wild Isles,” and a director of Disneynature’s “Polar Bear” feature, which premiered in 2022. He was also a series producer of the Netflix series “Our Planet,” a director of the Netflix film “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet,” an executive producer of BBC series “A Perfect Planet” and “The Hunt,” as well as a director on numerous other Disneynature films. Widely recognised for his role as series producer on genre-defining classics like “The Blue Planet” and “Planet Earth,” Alastair also served as executive producer for the BBC series “Frozen Planet.” Alastair is a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and was awarded their gold medal in 2012. He has honorary doctorates from the Universities of Bristol, Durham and Hull. In 2017, Alastair was the BBC Grierson Trustees’ Award winner, and he was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2019 for his services to film.
