‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ IS THE #1 NEWSCAST ACROSS ALL OF BROADCAST AND CABLE IN TOTAL VIEWERS, ADULTS 25-54 AND ADULTS 18-49, OUTDELIVERING NBC BY 1.2 MILLION VIEWERS AND CBS BY 2.8 MILLION VIEWERS

“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.441 million), Adults 25-54 (1.112 million) and Adults 18-49 (773,000) during the week of Dec. 16, 2024, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

• “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (6.209 million, 891,000 and 615,000, respectively) by 1.232 million Total Viewers, by 221,000 Adults 25-54 and by 158,000 Adults 18-49.
• “World News Tonight” widened its lead over “NBC Nightly News” versus the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+12% – 221,000 vs. 198,000) and Adults 18-49 (+30% – 158,000 vs. 122,000). In fact, “World News Tonight” turned in its largest margins in both demos in 7 weeks — since w/o 10/28/24.
• “World News Tonight” increased its year-to-year Total Viewer advantage over “NBC Nightly News” by 59% (1.232 million vs. 775,000).
• “World News Tonight” improved on the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+3%/+28,000 – 1.112 million vs. 1.084 million) and Adults 18-49 (+6%/+47,000 – 773,000 vs. 726,000).
• For the 3rd straight week, “World News Tonight” saw year-to-year gains in Adults 25-54 (+13%/+127,000 – 1.112 million vs. 985,000) and Adults 18-49 (+9%/+67,000 – 773,000 vs. 706,000). In addition, “World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to increase in both key Adult demos versus the year-ago week.
• Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.605 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.065 million) by 1.540 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.562 million) by 3.043 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+44% – 1.540 million vs. 1.068 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season.
• “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. “World News Tonight” (1.077 million and 738,000, respectively) is leading NBC (893,000 and 594,000, respectively), increasing its margins from the same point last season by triple digits in Adults 25-54 (+309% – 184,000 vs. 45,000) and Adults 18-49 (+260% – 144,000 vs. 40,000). In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (672,000 and 450,000, respectively) by 405,000 Adults 25-54 and by 288,000 Adults 18-49.
• For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.441 million, 1.112 million and 773,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (4.691 million, 666,000 and 417,000, respectively) by 2.750 million Total Viewers, by 446,000 Adults 25-54 and by 356,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Monday (12/16/24), Tuesday (12/17/24) and Friday (12/20/24), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC.” On Friday, “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws.“ The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on two days (Wednesday-Thursday), while CBS’ weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
