With Over 8 Million Viewers, the #1 Program on All of U.S. Television Is ‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ Delivering Its Largest Lead in Adult Demos in 7 Months — The Broadcast Nearly Triples Its Lead Over ‘NBC Nightly News’ in Adults 25–54 and 18–49

‘World News Tonight’ Leads ‘NBC Nightly News’ in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 by +227,000 and +166,000 Viewers, Respectively, and the Broadcast Leads ‘CBS Evening News’ by +335,000 Adults 25-54 and by +299,000 Adults 18-49

Season to Date, ‘World News Tonight’ Ranks #1 in Total Viewers for the 8th Year in a Row and #1 in Both Demos for 5th Year Straight

World News Tonight with David Muirstood as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (8.026 million) on all of broadcast and cable during the week of Feb. 12, 2024, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast on all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.026 million), Adults 25-54 (1.167 million) and Adults 18-49 (792,000) airing Monday-Friday, not impacted by sports, for the first time since the week of 9/4/23. “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (6.812 million, 940,000 and 626,000, respectively) by 1.214 million Total Viewers, by 227,000 Adults 25-54 and by 166,000 Adults 18-49.

“World News Tonight” nearly tripled its lead over “NBC Nightly News” versus the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+170% – 227,000 vs. 41,000) and Adults 18-49 (+186% – 166,000 vs. 57,000) to its largest of the season. In fact, “World News Tonight” posted its largest lead in both key Adult demos in 7 months — since w/o 7/17/23.

“World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer margin over “NBC Nightly News” year to year (+4% – 1.214 million vs. 1.171 million).

World News Tonightimproved on the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+6%/+69,000 – 1.167 vs. 1.098 million) and Adults 18-49 (8%/+61,000 – 792,000 vs. 731,000).

“World News Tonight” has won the last 272 of 273 weeks in Total Viewers and 200 of the last 203 in Adults 25-54.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.082 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 8th straight year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.910 million) by 1.172 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.945 million) by 3.137 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 5th consecutive season. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC in Adults 25-54 (+70,000 – 1.137 million vs. 1.064 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+62,000 – 782,000 vs. 720,000). In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (709,000 and 483,000, respectively) by 425,000 Adults 25-54 and by 299,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.026 million, 1.167 million and 792,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (5.224 million, 832,000 and 580,000, respectively) by 2.802 Total Viewers, by 335,000 Adults 25-54 and by 212,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Friday (2/16/24), “CBS Evening News” was retitled “CBS Evening Nws” due to a special report on former President Trump’s civil fraud case. The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. CBS’ averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EST on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the senior executive producer of the broadcast.
