With More Than 8 Million Viewers, ‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ Is the #1 Newscast on All of U.S. Television, Standing As #1 in Total Viewers, Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49

‘World News Tonight’ Beats ‘NBC Nightly News,’ Increasing Its Lead Week to Week by Double-Digits in Overall Viewers and Key Adult News Demo and Widening Its Total Viewer Advantage Year to Year

Season to Date, ‘World News Tonight’ Ranks #1 in Total Viewers for the 8th Year in a Row and #1 in Both Demos for 5th Year Straight

“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 newscast on all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.082 million), Adults 25-54 (1.096 million) and Adults 18-49 (762,000) during the week of Jan. 29, 2024, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (6.746 million, 1.009 million and 668,000, respectively) by 1.336 million Total Viewers, by 87,000 Adults 25-54 and by 94,000 Adults 18-49.

“World News Tonight” increased its lead over “NBC Nightly News” week to week in Total Viewers (+10% – 1.336 million vs. 1.212 million) and Adults 25-54 (+14% – 87,000 vs. 76,000).

“World News Tonight” widened its Total Viewer advantage over “NBC Nightly News” year to year by 7% (1.336 million vs. 1.243 million).

World News Tonightstood as the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (8.082 million) on all of broadcast and cable.

“World News Tonight” has won the last 270 of 271 weeks in Total Viewers and 198 of the last 201 in Adults 25-54.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.068 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 8th straight year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.916 million) by 1.152 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.925 million) by 3.143 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 5th consecutive season. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC in Adults 25-54 (+59,000 – 1.130 million vs. 1.071 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+56,000 – 782,000 vs. 726,000). In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (703,000 and 479,000, respectively) by 427,000 Adults 25-54 and by 303,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.082 million, 1.096 million and 762,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.997 million, 719,000 and 505,000, respectively) by 3.085 Total Viewers, by 377,000 Adults 25-54 and by 257,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Wednesday (1/31/24), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to ABC’s coverage of the NBA. The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
