‘World News Tonight’ Ranks #1 in Total Viewers for the 9th Consecutive Year, Growing Lead by 25% Over NBC to Its Largest in 30 Years, and Is #1 in Both Adult Demos for the 6th Year Straight, Increasing Its Margins Over NBC and CBS by Double Digits Season to Date

“World News Tonight with David Muir” is America’s most-watched weekday program in Total Viewers (7.172 million) on all of broadcast and cable and ranked as the No. 1 newscast across the board in Total Viewers (7.172 million), Adults 25-54 (959,000) and Adults 18-49 (681,000) during the week of April 14, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

  • “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 telecast of the day on Monday (7.443 million), Tuesday (7.430 million), Wednesday (7.093 million), Thursday (6.735 million) and Friday (6.212 million).
  • “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (5.908 million, 816,000 and 531,000, respectively) by264 million Total Viewers, by 143,000 Adults 25-54 and by 150,000 Adults 18-49.
  • “World News Tonight” (7.172 million, 959,000 and 681,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (3.738 million, 544,000 and 358,000, respectively) by 3.434 million Total Viewers, by 415,000 Adults 25-54 and by 323,000 Adults 18-49.
  • For the 6th week in a row, “World News Tonight” increased its year-to-year lead over “CBS Evening News” in Total Viewers (+9% – 3.434 million vs. 3.154 million), Adults 25-54 (+7% – 415,000 vs. 387,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28% – 323,000 vs. 252,000).
  • Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.862 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.307 million) by 1.555 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.489 million) by 3.373 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+25% – 1.555 million vs. 1.242 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is increasing its Total Viewer season margin versus “CBS Evening News” by 9% (3.373 million vs. 3.108 million) to its largest in 4 years — since the 2020-2021 season.
  • “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. Season to date, “World News Tonight” (1.114 million and 772,000, respectively) is leading NBC (930,000 and 618,000, respectively), substantially increasing its margins from the same point last season in Adults 25-54 (+69% – 184,000 vs. 109,000) and Adults 18-49 (+77% – 154,000 vs. 87,000).
  • In addition, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (650,000 and 435,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+12% – 464,000 vs. 414,000) and Adults 18-49 (+17% – 337,000 vs. 287,000).

NOTE: On Friday (4/18/25), all three programs were retitled. The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
