‘Nightline’ Ranks No. 1 Across the Board During Premiere Week for the 3rd Consecutive Year, Leading CBS’ ‘After Midnight’ and NBC’s ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’
‘Nightline’ Has Most-Watched Premiere Week in 5 Years
For the opening week of the 2024-2025 season, ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (939,000), Adults 25-54 (230,000) and Adults 18-49 (155,000) for the week of Sept. 23, 2024, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research, leading CBS’ “After Midnight” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in all key measures during premiere week for the 3rd consecutive year.
- “Nightline” posted double-digit gains week to week across the board: Total Viewers (+21% – 939,000 vs. 778,000), Adults 25-54 (+43% – 230,000 vs. 161,000) and Adults 18-49 (+72% – 155,000 vs. 90,000), drawing its largest overall audience in 10 months — since w/o 11/27/23.
- “Nightline” increased year to year in Total Viewers (+22% – 939,000 vs. 769,000), Adults 25-54 (+7% – 230,000 vs. 214,000) and Adults 18-49 (+5% – 155,000 vs. 148,000). In addition, “Nightline” turned in its most-watched premiere week in 5 years — since the 2019-2020 season.
- On Monday (9/23/24), “Nightline” delivered its most-watched telecast (1.310 million) in 9 months — since 12/25/23.
- This week, “Nightline” covered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attending the U.N. General Assembly hoping to gain further U.S. support for what he calls his “victory plan”; “Dances With Wolves” star Nathan Chasing Horse accused of sexual assault; New York City Mayor Eric Adams charged with fraud and bribery in a long-running corruption scheme, Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix talk about the “Joker” sequel; “IMPACT x Nightline”’s episode on Diddy and more.
NOTE: On Friday (9/27/24), CBS’ “After Midnight” was retitled to “After Midnight-ENC,” and NBC’s “Seth Meyers” was retitled to “Seth Meyers-SM” due to being repeats. CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
