IMPACT x Nightline: “Behind the Blind Side – Tackling the Truth” (304) – Streaming Only on Hulu
Logline: “IMPACT x Nightline” dives into the fallout between Super Bowl-winning offensive tackle Michael Oher and the Tuohy family, who took him in during high school.
Extended Logline: After the Tuohy family took Michael Oher in as a high schooler, he became a football star, played for Ole Miss and entered the NFL as a first-round pick. The story of how a wealthy white family helped a Black foster child make it to the NFL became an award-winning hit movie, “The Blind Side.”
In 2023, Oher sued the Tuohys and claimed that they exploited him and withheld his share of the movie profits, which the Tuohys vehemently denied. He also alleges that while the Tuohys benefitted by saying he was adopted, in reality, he was locked into a conservatorship that they controlled. How did such a feel-good story end up mired in contentious litigation? We speak to experts and Oher’s teammates and return to his hometown of Memphis to unpack how he feels everything went so wrong.
