AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF THE ‘20/20’ LIMITED SERIES ‘BAD ROMANCE’ PROFILES THE TRAGIC CASE OF A YOUNG COUPLE WHOSE DREAM OF STARTING A FAMILY ENDS IN A SHOCKING MURDER
ABC News Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman Investigates the Twisted Murder Plot Unraveled by a Tiny Clue in ‘Web of Lies,’ Airing Tuesday, April 1, on ABC and Streaming the Next Day on Hulu

“Bad Romance,” the 8-episode limited true crime series from ABC News’ “20/20,” returns with episode two, “Web of Lies,” a chilling tale of love, betrayal and a deadly secret. What began as a family dream for Mark and Donnah Winger, a young couple from Springfield, Illinois, soon unraveled into an unthinkable nightmare when, just months after the couple adopted a baby girl, Donnah was found brutally murdered in their home. Mark told authorities he walked in on a terrifying scene: a man—a driver who had once taken Donnah and their baby home from the airport—beating his wife to death. Acting, he says, in her defense, Mark killed the man, and many called him a hero. ABC News’ Matt Gutman investigates the harrowing details where three crime scene photos hold an important key in this case of a young mother gone too soon. This episode of “Bad Romance” airs TUESDAY, APRIL 1 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
Mourning Donnah and anxious to take care of his new baby, Mark hired a young nanny, Rebecca, to help care for his daughter. The two fell in love, married and had three children of their own. For years, it seemed like Mark had rebuilt his life—until a chance encounter with one of Donnah’s best friends unraveled a dark secret that no one could have imagined.
“Bad Romance” is hosted by ABC News contributor and ESPN analyst Ryan Smith and airs Tuesdays from 10:01-11:00 p.m. ET on ABC and next day on Hulu. Now in season two, the series reveals some of the shocking true crime stories of love turned lethal and some of the most startling and surprising romances over the years, featuring interviews with individuals involved in some of the most deadly and twisted obsessions.
