Jim Ryan

Jim Ryan is a Dallas-based correspondent for ABC News Radio.

Ryan joined the ABC News Radio team in 1993 whilst working simultaneously with WBAP Radio in Dallas.

On assignment for ABC News Radio, Ryan has reported from Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Nicaragua, Bahrain, Qatar, Brazil, Japan and Russia. He covered the Branch Davidian standoff and fire in Waco, Texas, in 1993 and the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building two years later. In 2003, Ryan was embedded with the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf and watched as the opening missiles of Operation Iraqi Freedom were fired from the destroyer USS Higgins. Additionally, Ryan has covered nine political conventions, three Olympic games and many hurricanes.

Ryan began his broadcasting career while attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, working part time as a reporter and news anchor at WBAP Radio, KERA Radio and the Texas AP Radio Network. After graduation, Ryan joined WBAP full time and would remain with the station for the next 29 years.

Ryan is an award-winning journalist with honors, including the RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award and the Sigma Delta Chi Bronze Medallion.

Ryan is also an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas in the Mayborn School of Journalism.
