Andrew McCarthy
Andrew McCarthy gained fame as an actor in the 1980s, appearing in iconic films like “Pretty in Pink,” “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “Less Than Zero,” as well as cult favorites “Weekend At Bernie’s” and “Mannequin.” He has starred on Broadway and made numerous television appearances, most recently seen as a regular on Fox’s “The Resident.”
McCarthy has directed some of today’s most popular television shows, including “Orange Is the New Black,” “The Blacklist” and “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.”
He is also one of today’s leading travel writers. McCarthy was an editor-at-large at National Geographic Traveler magazine and has written for numerous other publications, including The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. His newest book, “Walking with Sam,” was released in May 2023 and immediately became a New York Times bestseller. An intimate, funny and poignant travel memoir following the author and actor as he walks the Camino de Santiago with his son Sam in an effort to get to know each other as adults.
McCarthy’s previous book, “Brat: An ‘80s Story, debuted to critical acclaim in April 2021. The book is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction and masculinity. His travel memoir “The Longest Way Home” became a New York Times bestseller in 2012.
